#LoveWell?

One day on social media I made some comment about living as a follower of Jesus. My status was full of theological language. It was for insiders only. A good friend said, “I think what you’re trying to say is, love well. Am I right?”

He was.

From that moment forward I realized that my calling as a pastor was to help people to love well. For a long time I thought my calling was primarily about helping people to believe rightly. That’s part of it, but at the end of the day what I want more than anything else is to help people live out love. I want to be a person who loves well and I want to influence others to do the same.

Be part of a community of people who share your interests. Engage in conversations about what it means to #lovewell. This newsletter will always be free. However, at some point I will be turning on paid subscriptions as a means for you to support the work being done here. You can think of it as a way for you to buy a cup of coffee or a beer to simply say, “Thanks.”

A bit more of my story…

When you write a blog some people typically want to know about your credentials. Credentials are pretty big deal and people who care about such things, really care (and those who don’t, really, really don’t).

I am a graduate of Central Michigan University with a B.S. in Psychology and a Minor in Religion. I also hold a Masters of Divinity from Michigan Theological Seminary. I am an ordained Teaching Elder (a fancy term for pastor) in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

I am the lead pastor with the Acts 13 Network. The Acts 13 Network is a church planting movement that is focused on “sending the sent.” I am hopeful that the kingdom of God can expand in an organic and missional way in the local church. Before launching the Acts 13 Network, I served as Assistant Pastor at Grace Chapel in Farmington Hills, MI and before that I spent ten years on staff with Cru serving in Central Illinois and Metro Detroit. I have also served as a part-time teaching pastor at Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Brighton, MI.

My journey includes an amazing bride, Amy, along with two kids, Ethan and Libby. Living life alongside of these three amazing people reminds me daily of the necessity of the subversive mission of my King and his Kingdom.

I like coffee, beer, whiskey, film, music, fiction, and when I jog I chant, “Let’s go Red Wings” under my breath.
